The K-Cup Challenge: Coffee People Donut Shop Coffee
This review of Coffee People Donut Shop Coffee (Extra Bold) is sponsored by Joe Simonovich and our friends at Shoffee.com. I had actually asked Joe for a different variety of K-Cup, but since my original request was on backorder, he went ahead and sent me a box of his very popular Donut Shop Coffee from Coffee People. And while I like them well enough (sorry to ruin any suspense), my wife couldn’t be happier with Joe’s selection. Me, I’m just excited to be trying yet another K-Cup coffee provider for the first time. Coffee People meet Qwowi, Qwowi meet Coffee People.
What is Says On The Box
Remember the good ol days with this sweet, full-bodied all-American classic. The great taste of your favorite Donut Shop is now in Keurig K-Cups.
The Aroma
Donut Shop Coffee doesn’t have the most overpowering aroma. In fact, there’s not really that much to it at all. Don’t get me wrong, the aroma is pleasant. It’s just not particularly strong.
Drink it black
Donut Shop Coffee doesn’t have the complexity of say a Green Mountain Kenyan AA. In fact, the flavor is pretty much no frills. Initially there’s a smoky, nutty bite on the tip of the tongue that smooths out as it rolls to the back of the mouth. Don’t take it for an absolute truth, but I’m pretty sure there’s a floral finish here.
Acidity is extremely mild, but the coffee doesn’t taste flat. There’s no bitterness (and subsequently no stomach rot either). It should come as no surprise that I probably wouldn’t drink it black by choice, but if I had to, I think I’d survive just fine.
With Cream and Sugar
Unlike the previously reviewed Double Black Diamond K-Cups from Green Mountain, which will fight you every step of the way, Donut Shop Coffee welcomes cream and sugar with open arms. Granted, like most blends, it looses some of it’s distinction when the popular additives are mixed in the cup, but no doubt it’s still a happy little cup of joe, that would make an excellent every day choice for the vast majority of K-Cup drinkers.
Final Thoughts
Here in the Northeast, most of us only have one donut shop. It’s on nearly every corner, and it sucks. So in that regard, Coffee People Donut Shop is a huge step up from what I’ve come to expect from my local donut shop.
I do actually remember one Donut shop my parents used to take me to on Sunday mornings. We lived in Tennessee at the time, so I’m guessing it was in Chattanooga, not from from Lundy’s. It was dark, and smoky, and not really much fun, so yeah, Coffee People donut shop is better than that too. I guess what I’m saying is that this blend from Coffee People is pretty much the best coffee shop experience I’ve ever had in my life (not to damn them with faint praise).
I’ll continue to drink Donut Shop Coffee until there is none left in the box. Since I’ve started the K-Cup Challenge, I’ve become more of a fan of the darker roasts, but this solid medium roast is right in my wife’s wheel house. I has become her favorite along with the Caribou Blend I discussed last week. She seems equally pleased with both, so if you like one, it’s a reasonable bet you’ll like the other.
Shamless Plug
Don’t make me beg people. I’m don’t shame easily, so I’ll do what I have to get you to visit the sponsor of this review, Shoffee.com. In addition to offering an outstanding selection of K-Cups for your Keurig Brewer, and special deals at the Shoffee Blog, CupOfTheWeek, Shoffee offers free shipping on orders of $60 or more. If you spend $75 or more on K-Cups or a sweet Keurig Brewer (I recommend the B70), Joe will throw in a free box of K-Cups. Seriously, how sweet is that?
