The K-Cup Challenge: Green Mountain Gingerbread
Like they’ve done so often before, the nice people at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters were kind enough to send me some samples of their latest round of seasonal limited edition blends. For the holiday season they’re offering up a Gingerbread variety, and the aptly named “Holiday Blend”. I’ll review Holiday Blend soon enough, but today is all about the Gingerbread.
If you’ve read any of my flavored coffee reviews before, you may have noticed that I have a habit of saying “I don’t like flavored coffee”, only to explain “but I like this one”, well, as much as I’m a fan of Green Mountain, let me assure you, that ain’t gonna happen today.
The Description
The flavors and aroma of fresh-baked, warm gingerbread.
The Aroma
Yup, it smells like Gingerbread. Now is probably a good time to mention that I don’t much care for gingerbread.
Drinking it Black
Oh boy, this stuff is giving me flashbacks. It’s slightly reminiscent of Coffee People’s Chai coffee, but not so much so that I’m going to flush it down the toilet and rip my tongue out of my mouth. It has a legitimate gingerbread flavor, and all the spices therein come through quite nicely in the flavor. At the same time, it’s still very much coffee, and that’s always a good thing. But yeah, I really don’t like gingerbread.
With Cream and Sugar
Rare is the flavored coffee that doesn’t taste better with cream and sugar. It’s certainly true for Green Mountain’s Gingerbread. Yes, it makes it sweeter, makes it creamier, but most importantly it changes the texture a bit and gives it a bit more of a gingerbread feel in your mouth (if that makes any sense at all). That’s all well and good, but as I may have mentioned by now, I don’t really like gingerbread.
Final Thoughts
When it comes to gingerbread in general, I’m more of a pick the gumdrops off the roof kind of guy. Unfortunately for me, Green Mountain’s Gingerbread coffee is 100% gum drop free. Look, I love Green Mountain as much as the next guy, probably more than the next guy, but I’d have to lose a bet before I’d drink another cup. It just ain’t for me.
If however, you are one of those people who actually like gingerbread, I suspect that you’ll not like, but love this coffee. Reviews on the Green Mountain website have used phrases like “The Perfect Coffee”, and “The Most Wonderful Coffee”. Try it with whipped cream; the Green Mountain people say it’s good that way.
Shameless Plug
